Eddie Izzard’s
intimate and
hilarious
history trip

Eddie Izzard usually plays vast venues like Wembley where for the most of the audience he is a dot in the distance.

However last week Eddie came home to Bexhill bringing his latest show Force Majeure to the Eddie Izzard Theatre at Bexhill College. The venue opened by Eddie himself last year, only holds 200 people, so it was a real treat to see him in such an intimate setting. He took us on a surreal journey through time, rather like a history lesson, but one that you would have wanted when you were at school. He kept the audience with him for nearly two hours taking in 1066, the Roman Empire, the execution of Charles I and ending up with a satire on Lord of the Rings in his encore. The performance was personal - he was able to interact with the audience - occasionally asking for prompts when he apologetically lost his place. You could forgive him - he’s on the last leg of a world tour in which he has performed the act in at least four different languages.

He was supported by the excellent Yacine Belhousse - a French comedian - very much in the Eddie Izzard surrealist mode.
