Wick pupils light up the stage at London’s 02

SINGING alongside Britain’s Got Talent sensation Connie Talbot, in front of a sell-out crowd at one of the nation’s top stadiums, was exactly the right note children from one Wick primary school had hoped to hit.

Excited pupils from White Meadows Primary School’s choir were due to perform at the stunning O2 stadium, in London, yesterday (Wednesday, January 30) evening, alongside almost 7,000 other children as part of this year’s Young Voices Concert.

The 45 members of the White Meadows choir have been rehearsing tirelessly for weeks on end in preparation for their big day.

The school’s head of music, Kirsty Porter, said: “The children are extremely excited about this amazing opportunity and can’t wait to get there.

“They have worked extremely hard over the past six months learning the 13 songs – along with all the actions – that they will be singing along with 7,000 other children from across the southern region of the UK.”

The talented youngsters were set to perform alongside Connie, 11, – who reached the finals of Britain’s Got Talent, in 2007 and has since gone on to perform to millions at venues across the globe – during The Beatles’ classic, Let it Be.

They were also due to be singing with The African Children’s Choir, a group of young people hand-picked by Take That star, Gary Barlow, to record the charity single, Sing – written especially by Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber for last year’s Queen’s diamond jubilee concert, at Buckingham Palace.

As if this wasn’t enough, the White Meadows choir also needed to stave off their nerves to perform in front of an audience of around 14,000 people.
