The Ypres Castle Inn sold 100Kg.

Owner Garry Dowling said: “As far as we are concerned it was a great success and we were extremely busy throughout the festival.

Webbes at the Fish Café sold an impressive 6,000 scallops and Rebecca Webbe greeted familiar faces from previous years, showing the festival definitely has a dedicated following.

In fact the Rye Bay Scallop Week was such a success, it even had a knock-on effect in Battle. Nobles restaurant, based in the High Street, reported sellling more than ten times the number of scallops they did during the same period in 2015.

Rye Bay Scallop Week culminated in a very well attended ‘What a Load of Scallops’ race, which saw teams race around the town with a wheelbarrow full of scallop shells.

The jubilant winners, for the second year in a row, were Harbour Health Club.

Those behind the event have expressed their delight at its runaway success.

Event promoter Oliver Campion, from local IT firm Domain Support Ltd, said: “I’m extremely pleased with the success of this year’s event.

“Despite cold and windy weather and the usual rumours of a scallop drought, scallops and tourists were in abundance!”
