Acorn's BBQ

Youngsters, families and staff enjoyed a barbecue at Acorn's Children's Home in Dorset Road on Wednesday.

Manager Janet Osborne had her fingers crossed for fine weather during the event which began at 4pm and went into early evening.

Acorn's Children's Home provides short breaks for children with learning disabilities and currently has 45 families using the service, looking after youngsters between 7-19.

Janet said: "We are having a barbecue for the children and invited all the parents, carers and staff, even grandparents if they wanted to come as well. This is just an informal afternoon for everyone to get together.

"We also have Independent Night on Wednesdays so the young people will have their own jobs as well and are helping to organise the barbecue with us. Independent Night is about teaching young people independent skills, such as social skills or how to do cookery - personal growing skills."
