ALL QUIET AFTER CUP DEFEAT

TOWNS in Lewes district were quiet following the England match on Saturday.

No problems were reported in any of the pubs, with supporters generally going home early after England's exit from the World Cup.

The larger than normal number of police officers on duty found that people were in good humour, despite the disappointment of the result.

Sergeant David Kemp said: 'I wish to praise the responsible behaviour of people on Saturday evening.

'So often towns have to deal with mindless damage and rowdy behaviour, and on Saturday we had none of this.

'The towns' licensees did a first class job and are also to be thanked.'
