Angmering students’ art show one of the ‘best yet’

For months, students from years 10 to 13 have been working on their pieces for the annual art, design and technology display.

And this year’s bumper crop of work has stunned teachers at the school.

David Brixey, head teacher, said: “I have really enjoyed our art, design and technology exhibition this year. I think it is one of the best we have held in school and a wonderful celebration of the students’ hard work and talent.”

Students from AS and A-level fine art, digital photography and AS graphics united with GCSE fine art students, BTEC art and design ones and teenagers from GCSE graphics and product design to create a diverse array of pieces.

Art subject leader Sam Hobbs said there was an impressive range of work.

“I am extremely proud of the achievements of everyone who has contributed to the exhibition,” said Mrs Hobbs. “As well as an original and exciting display of work by A-level fine art and digital photography students, the standard of work produced by GCSE fine art students is particularly impressive.

“From Banksy-inspired stencils to craft-based collage and fine art painting, the art team have encouraged students to explore art that has meaning to them.

“Teaching this year group has been so much fun, I can’t wait to see what the students continuing on to our A-level courses next year produce.”

Carrie Brixey, subject leader for design and technology, praised students for their innovative work over the year and said she had high hopes for them in the future.

“I am very impressed with the range and quality of work from each subject within technology,” said Mrs Brixey. “There are outstanding and innovative designs at both GCSE and A level in all areas including graphics, textiles, food, product design and systems.

“The quality of the practical work is very high and all credit to the students and teachers who have worked so hard to produce this.

“We have also had examples of the BTEC Jamie Oliver’s cooking skills course which has proved hugely enjoyable for the students involved.

“The students have excelled themselves and some will hopefully progress to become the designers of the future.”
