Apology after Goodwood cancels DJ event

A POWER failure on Friday night meant that Goodwood had to cancel the first of its Three Friday Nights DJ events.

Racecourse staff issued an apology to disappointed visitors hoping to see Groove Armada spin some tunes - and promised a 50 per cent refund or the chance to transfer to another event.

A statement from Goodwood released on Saturday read:

“Goodwood Racecourse would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused by the cancellation of the post-racing DJ performance on Friday, June 8 – the first of our Three Friday Nights. We would also like to thank all of our customers for their patience and understanding.

“The decision to cancel was taken following a regional power failure, which meant the venue could not operate safely. We understand the failure was caused by a mains cable being damaged in the local vicinity at around 9.20pm which affected areas to the East of Chichester.

“We fully understand the disappointment this will have caused all our racegoers, and although the six race card was completed, we are offering the following for all customers who purchased tickets and badges for the event:

“A 50 per cent refund on tickets purchased for Friday, June 8, or the opportunity to transfer your ticket to a future meeting of your choice (excluding Glorious Goodwood and subject to availability). The ability to transfer includes the next two of our ‘Three Friday Night’ events, featuring Dermot O’Leary on Friday June 15, or Mike Skinner on Friday June 22.

“Any customers who purchased tickets for the event on Friday June 8th should contact the Goodwood Ticket Office on 01243 755055 from 0930 on Monday June 11th. Please ensure it is the original ticket purchaser (card holder) who contacts the Goodwood Ticket Office.

“The decision to cancel the concert was not taken lightly, but we have to put the safety of our customers first. We trust racegoers who were here for the evening understand the issue was caused by events beyond our control, and we hope to welcome them back to what promises to be a great evening for Dermot O’Leary on Friday June 15.”
