Artworks bring blaze of colour

For the first time ever, Bognor Regis Art Society did not bring good weather to Arundel and Saturday, August 2, at the opening of its summer exhibition.

However, the exhibition brought together the largest hanging of pictures ever at the Norfolk Centre, Castle Gate, on a dull overcast day.

The many subjects and the range of styles, for which the society is so well known, transformed the centre into a blaze of colour.

The light for a dull day was very good and, together with the society's lighting effects, it created a perfect atmosphere in which pictures were seen at their best.

Even before the show opened, many visitors to Arundel came in to view the exhibits.

Fred, a large dummy of an artist holding a palette and brushes which stood at the entrance to the centre's grounds, was as usual a great favourite with children, who came to shake his hand.

In spite of the dull day, Arundel was crowded and there were a lot of people attending the exhibition of jousting held in the nearby castle grounds.

Many of these visited the exhibition after the jousting and expressed their delight at the paintings and the wide range of subjects.

Sunday brought better weather and members looked forward to another successful exhibition and brighter skies.

Many say we need some rain, so perhaps the society is a good luck omen after all for Arundel, as it has been in the past.
