They will witness ‘outstanding displays’ of 15th century jousting by highly experienced professional competitors, contending for the ultimate honour of winning the Championship of Arundel Castle.

“The upcoming joust promises to be the most exhilarating experience our visitors will witness when it comes to the medieval events at the castle this year,” said castle manager, Bryan McDonald.

“Not only is this one of the most prestigious tournaments on the international stage, but the six-day affair provides thrilling displays of authentic, highly-skilled combat, bringing the splendour and drama of 15th century Britain to life.”

The tournament will feature eight competitors, divided into four teams to represent the great political powers of medieval Europe – England, France, the Holy Roman Empire and Burgundy.

Set in 1470, the tournament is packed with action throughout the week, with three event slots each day. On Tuesday, hunting skills will be tested, while Wednesday brings in the two-men jousting. Friday provides a spectacle of four-man and individual jousting.

The climax of the week, on Sunday afternoon, is the final tournament, with the two highest-scoring teams competing to become the ultimate champions.

The event is organised by Stacy Evans Director of Destrier Pro HE and supported by the knights and men-at-arms of Raven Tor Living History Group. There will also be storytelling and period music and crafts.
