Attempted distraction burglary in Littlehampton

A MAN conned his way into an elderly Littlehampton couple's home, claiming to be from a water company.

It happened at about noon last Saturday (June 12), when the man and another knocked on a dorr in Gosden Road, and asked to check the water pressure.

Only one was allowed in, a white man in his 20s, more than 6ft tall, with dark brown hair and waetring a dark bomber-type jacket, and he was then asked to leave by the householder. Nothing was stolen.

DC Clare Thomas from Littlehampton CID said: "If you recognise this man or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Gosden Road area around the time of the incident, please call 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 793 of 12/06.

"Don't let anybody in unless you are expecting them. Representatives from bona fide companies rarely make house calls without an appointment and will not take offence if asked to verify their identity.

"Follow the 'Lock, Stop, Chain, Check' security precautions to help ensure you don't become a victim. Talk to people through the door, rather than opening it when they call. Ask who they are before opening the door, and keep the door on the chain until they have shown their identification."
