Ban on cold callers

The new 'no cold calling zone' will be launched after a consultation with residents on the Harmers Hay estate, Hailsham..

Door-to-door salesmen and religious groups could be affected by the move.

East Sussex County Council member Bob Tidy believed the zone would stop rogue callers preying on vulnerable residents.

He said: 'Community safety is one of our top priorities so I am extremely pleased that we have helped to set up this scheme for Harmers Hay.

'Rogue traders are a real menace and tend to target older and vulnerable members of the community.

'Victims can literally have their lives ruined by the practices of some cold callers.'

Other South Wealden towns and villages, such as Polegate and Pevensey Bay, are looking to set up similar schemes.
