Beaver Scouts seeveg project bloom

A Horsham in Bloom award has helped get the 2nd Horsham Michigan Beaver Scout Colony's vegetable growing project off the ground.

With help from parents and local businesses (plus a bit of sun and rain), come July, these local Beaver Scouts will be eating carrots, peas and potatoes – planted by their very own hands earlier in the year.

It all started with a £100 grant from Horsham in Bloom. It didn’t stop there though – Worth Scaffolding Company Ltd donated boards for the planters, which the parents then helped to build. And then it was over to the Beavers – time to get planting, tending and eating.

Kestrel (Caroline McCurrach), 2nd Horsham Michigan Beaver Scout leader, said: “This has become a real community project that we hope will inspire the children and their families to ‘grow their own’ even if on a very small scale. Thanks to everyone who got stuck in and to Horsham in Bloom for the grant!”

Sue Brundish, Chair of Horsham in Bloom, said: “We’re delighted to support this enterprising project. It means the children can learn the skills and thrills of planting and maintaining their crops. And I’m sure that the most exciting and rewarding part will be harvesting and tasting the produce!”
