Neighbourhood plan would you be interested in volunteering to become involved in creating a plan for Beckley? Neighbourhood Plans have come about as a part of the government’s Localism Act, designed to put greater decision making into the hands of communities. Any parish can develop a Neighbourhood Plan. It is put together by residents and must reflect the views of the whole community. It has to be researched, written and consulted on. It would include villagers’ views on building and development as well as shops, transport, medical facilities etc. and how villagers would like to see Beckley evolve. Once finished it is submitted to Rother District Council before being judged by an independent Inspector. A completed and approved plan is not contestable, so if villagers have said they do or do not wish to have developments in a certain area or of a certain type or density, then it will not happen. It must, though, accept (after consultation and debate) central governments’ requirements for overall residential accommodation requirements – it is the how, where and what that the NP can determine.

The plan would take about one year to produce. It would involve about ten villagers (including at least one member of the Parish Council), who have specific skills, are computer literate and have some time to spare.

If you feel you may be interested in taking forward the concept of a Neighbourhood Plan and would like to receive more information, please email your contact details [email protected] or telephone 01424 751550

The parking of cars and work vans on the pavements in Beckley Main Street, especially by the Old Post office in four oaks. It has been an ongoing pet hate for local people. This problem has been noted to the local police. Please make people aware that parking on pavements you can be reported and find will be given. It just takes a minute to check if you have left enough room for a mother and push chair to get through! They shouldn’t have to go on the main road to pass your car or work men’s van.

Here to help” is in the need of volunteers in the Beckley area as there is only one volunteer who is now getting very busy. They help Elderly and young people when they first come out of hospital. It might be offering transport to the doctor or hospital, even doing a little shopping or helping to cook a meal. Fuel is paid please if you can spare some time to this great cause call for more details 01797280377.
