Big weekend of music and celebration planned in Park

FINAL preparations are being made for the biggest weekend of music and celebrations that Egerton Park has seen for decades.

In response to local feelings that there is nothing for Rother young people the Saturday evening of May 10 will see a line-up of five local youth pop bands presenting their own music on a big stage specially built on the main lawn in Egerton Park..

Michael Ensor, of Beulah Baptist Church, said: "Edgy Fest is for young people to enjoy their own music in a safe and pleasant environment.

"The performance will start at 7pm and finish at 9.30pm.

"Admission is free, but there will be a limit of 500 entrance passes which will be given out on the night as people arrive.

"The music line up includes the bands: Mytoybox, Natalies Box, Barrier Dutch, Hold The Phone, and Some People.

"The range of music from these bands will appeal to all interested in the pop scene. It is so encouraging that the band members come from this area, not only from Bexhill but also from Polegate, Catsfield, Netherfield, and Hastings."

Cllr Ensor said: "Many years ago there used to be a bandstand in the middle of Egerton Park, and the residents of Bexhill could go and enjoy popular music at their leisure.

"The HOPE In The Park organisers have arranged for the well known Battle Town Brass Band to come to the Whitsun Celebrations of Sunday, May 11 from 1pm to 2.30pm.

"The sound from these 28 musicians should revive memories of the former glory of Egerton Park, admission is free of charge and it will be open for families and friends to come with their picnics and bask in the sound."

For the first time, the churches in Bexhill are combining for an outdoor Whitsun celebration in Egerton Park on Sunday, May 11.

Not only will Beulah Baptist Church be holding an outdoor service in the park at 11am, but also Churches Together In Bexhill will be coming together at 3pm for a huge Pentecost Celebration.

Cllr Ensor said this week: "We will definitely run out of chairs, so everyone should bring along their own picnic chairs.

"The afternoon will continue with a drama group from Ashburnham who will be performing on the specially-built stage in Egerton Park from 5pm, but the highlight of the day will be the performance of the Life Gospel Choir, who will be giving a two hour gospel concert.

Admission is free, but do bring along you own picnic chairs.

The organisers are still looking for volunteer helpers, and also are praying for good weather!
