Biker critically injured in town centre crash

TOWN CCTV system footage is being scoured by police accident investigation officers as a motorcyclist lies critically injured in hospital.

A Sussex Police Roads Policing Unit closed Devonshire Square and its approaches for more than two hours on Wednesday evening as they began a detailed site investigation.

They said a 31 year-old local man was riding a green Kawasaki ZX1000 machine as he approached Devonshire Square from Devonshire Road shortly after 8pm.

The bike was in collision with a black Citroen C2 being driven by a 22 year-old man from the Eastbourne area.

The bike demolished a street bollard. The rider was thrown against a lamp post.

The injured rider was taken by ambulance to the Conquest Hospital with serious leg injuries.

Firefighters were later called to wash down the road.
