BMX boys get stuck in

THE BMX track at Sidley recreation ground is being re-built after standing derelict for the last eight years.

The track was first established in 1982 and was home to legendary events and a long-standing club which produced some of the UK's most talented riders.

However, it fell in to a state of disrepair when the club was forced to fold in the mid-90's.

Now the Bexhill BMX Club has been re-established with John Moore as chairman and local youngsters have re-built a large part of the old track.

Rich Moore says: "Funding has been difficult to come-by with only the remaining funds from the old club and a small donation from the Bexhill Trust available for the hire of plant and machinery.

"Rother Council has fenced the area but will not help with funding and even charge the club 100 per year ground rent."

Scores of local riders led by Rich's brother and former World No.3 Marc (who also runs The Source BMX and skate shop) have given up their time to pitch in with the re-building of the track from scraping the weeds off to shaping and rolling the new track.

Anyone interested in the club can contact chairman John Moore on 01424 217314 or Marc at the Source on 01424 810447.
