BREAKING NEWS: MP Barker quits Government role and will not stand for re-election

Bexhill and Battle MP Greg Barker last night announced he was stepping down as the Government’s junior minister for Energy and Climate Change and will leave politics altogether next year.

The shock announcement came last night amid Prime Minister David Cameron’s high profile cabinet reshuffle.

Mr Barker has said he will not stand for re-election next May and will take a temporary role as an advisor to the Prime Minister.

Commenting on Twitter Mr Barker said it had been a “great privilege” to represent Bexhill and Battle.
