Bowls: The Burwash short mat bowls club enjoyed a great evening last week against Chiddingly at home. This was an essential match for both teams as they are so close to the top of the table and only had one game each left to play after this one. The triples played first with Margaret Waterhouse, Irene Bell & Joan Howard losing 18-13 after a really good start. Keith & Angela Marden and Gavin Wood won 22-4. After tea Julie Hawkins & Keith Wood won 22-7 and Alan Green & Mary Taylor won 27-3. This meant Burwash picked up six league points. The team played their final match last night away to Horam. Report next week.

Music: Tonight it is music night at the Pavilion in Burwash Common. Local, talented singers and musicians will be there to entertain you. The fun begins at 8pm and the licenced bar will be open. If you would like to take part whether it is singing or playing a musical instrument you would be very welcome, just go along to the Pavilion tonight and introduce yourself to the organisers.

Jumble: Their is to be another jumble sale in the village tomorrow. This time it is being held by the Scouts in their Scout headquarters in the Bear Car park. Jumble maybe left at their headquarters from 6.pm to 8pm today. The sale is on from 10.30am with all the usual stalls.

Lunch: The special Sunday Lunch is being held on Sunday at the village hall. Over 40 diners will sit down to enjoy their choices of three courses. There is still time to book a place if you would like to join us. Waitress service and a good time is expected. To find out if you can join us call Mary Taylor on 01435 882107. All the proceeds from the day will go to the village hall fund for their new windows. We look forward to seeing all our lovely supporters.

Leaving: Next weekend sees the end of an era, as Tesky & Barbara O’Neil close the Newsagents shop door for the last time. Barbara and Tesky have served us well since 1987, making sure we have our newspapers and stationary. Taking in the post office when the old one closed. They have been very involved with village life, giving clubs and societies the use of the shop window for displays to promote the various activities and encourage people to join them. They were the king pin in the new Seagulls over Burwash club too. They will be very much missed not only for the selling of their wares but also for the cheerful banter they gave as the got to know us all. We thank them for all their time and effort on our behalf and wish them both a long and happy retirement.

Thank you: Also leaving next weekend is Dr Jane Woodgate. She has been with the village practice since the late 1980’s when she joined Doctor Glynn and hazel Walters. Jane has been a very popular doctor because of her gentleness and understanding of people and the illnesses they suffer. She will be greatly missed by all her patients and we all wish her well as she embarks on the next chapter of her medical career. There is to be a special farewell do for Jane on Saturday 28th March in the village hall from 4pm until 6.30pm. You are all welcome to go along. If anyone wishes to make a cake please call Julie at the Surgery to let her know.
