Butcher’s bangers win award

HORSHAM based butchers Bangers Galore won ‘Best Sausage in Show’ for their pork with cranberry and orange creation at a recent produce event.

David Bell, owner of the butchers, said it was ‘fantastic’ to win the award at The South Eastern Prime Stock Show.

Bangers Galore, Blatchford Close, has been at the current site for the past two and a half years but was established in Surrey 14 years ago.

Mr Bell has worked as a butcher since he was 16, and said he is excited about taking his business forward in Horsham.

He said: “We do the market in the Carfax every Saturday and have people come up to the stall who we have been recommended to. Joe Public seems to love sausages.”

For the best in show prize, the judges were presented with six sausages, three cooked and three raw, to see how well they cook and check for shrinkage and, of course, taste.

On coming up with new flavours Mr Bell said: “I have been doing this a long time, so you just think what goes well together and what should work in a sausage, so we just try things out and see what the outcome is”

At the show they were also awarded a first and second for their traditional sausages and their Cumberland.
