Bylaw allows walkies to continue in park

A new bylaw, which allows the pets to roam much of the open space, will come into effect on November 2.

It was agreed without debate by Arun District Council members last week to banish fears dogs would only be allowed in the park on leads.

That suggestion was overturned by councillors in July. Last week's agreement ratified that decision.

But dogs will be banned from the park's fenced wildlife conservation area and kept on leads around its boating lake.

Other areas around Bognor from which dogs will be banned all year under the new bylaws are: Blakes Road leisure gardens, Felpham; children's play areas, tennis courts, putting greens, pitch and putt courses, adventure golf courses, bowls greens, BMX tracks, skate parks and games courts.

Bans between May 1 and September 30 each year apply to the beach between Park Road and Gloucester Road in Bognor and Felpham's Canning Road to Felpham Sailing Club.

Dogs must be kept on leads all year in Steyne Gardens, Bognor; Jubilee Field, Bersted; Top Road Playing Field, Slindon; Felpham beach huts; and The Spinney, North Bersted.

The restriction applies between May 1 and September 30 each year to the promenade between Park Road and Gloucester Road, Bognor, and Canning Road to 370 yards east of Blakes Road in Felpham.

Dogs must also be put on leads when a council officer orders that to happen and dog mess must be cleared up on any public open space. Failure to obey the bylaws will lead to fines.
