Carers take to the sea for team building weekend on Thames barge

Eight young carers sailed away for a weekend of learning how to steer, climb rigging and various other tasks on a restored Thames Barge “Cambria”.

This experience gave them a break from their day to day tasks and teaches them team building. They were divided into two watches, each with 2 girls, 2 boys and a bosun and given tuition during the sail.

This opportunity was only possible due to the following charities working together.

The Cambria trust for providing the barge and teaching these deserving young people a new skill set.

Care for the Carers, Eastbourne, for arranging for the young carers to get together for a weekend away from their normal caring tasks.

Hastings and Rother Voluntary Association for the Blind, for providing the mini bus, Rotary District 1120, who’s brainchild this was and the Rotary Clubs of Battle and Senlac for raising the funds and the Rotary clubs of Battle and St Leonards for driving the eight young carers and two Bosun to Gillingham and collecting them from Gravesend after their weekend sail.
