Found: A ring has been found in the Village Hall. It’s uncertain when it could have been lost as it was fairly well concealed and could have been there for some time. If you have lost a ring and think that it could be yours contact Vanessa on 01424 844363.

Pantomime: Tickets are on sale in the Village Stores for the Show of the Year, the famous CADS pantomime in the Village Hall. This year’s extravaganza is ‘Sinbad and the Big Eruption’ and will be performed on the 4th, 5th and 6th December at 7.30pm with a matinee on the 6th at 2.30pm. Tickets cost £7 and £4 and you can be sure of an evening to remember!

WI: The Catsfield WI’s Annual Meeting at the beginning of the month could have been a ‘dry’ affair as AGM’s go, but this was certainly the exception to the rule! From the start it was light-hearted and although dealing with the usual business matters that govern these occasions, this was far from tedious. We began as usual by singing ‘Jerusalem’, this time accompanied by a guest appearance by David Wilson, who kindly came to play the piano for us in Barbara’s absence. Beryl our secretary, read us a summary of speakers and events that had taken place in the past year, reminding us of the many happy times that we’d all enjoyed together as members of this vibrant and friendly branch of the WI. Ann, the treasurer read the financial statement and it was good to know that our finances are sound. It was also particularly pleasing to hear that we will be able to present a final cheque to our current charity, Demelza Hospice Care for £1084 from our fundraising. This is in addition to the money that they’ve already been given, a substantial cheque of several hundred pounds raised by the sponsored walk. Our president Ann gave her report and made a point of thanking all members who had made special contributions to organising and planning the events, which we had enjoyed together throughout the past year and she said that there is an exciting and interesting programme awaiting us in 2015. She then left the stage whilst election of the president for the next year took place and to no-one’s surprise, amidst cheers and applause, she was duly re-elected! Thanks were given to her on everyone’s behalf for the excellent job that she does, dealing with all the necessary formalities whilst keeping the meetings light-hearted and full of fun. Ruby had provided us with a quiz, which caused much hilarity and hard thinking and took us up to tea time, followed by drawing the raffle.

Remembrance Sunday: The parish church of St Laurence had a larger congregation than usual last Sunday, as people gathered together to remember the fallen of two World Wars. As always, it was most moving to hear the names of those read out who had given their lives for their country and to stand in silence to remember them. It was a huge sacrifice for a village as small as Catsfield to have lost so many men and most families must have been touched by their loss in some way. We will remember them.

Mobile Library: The East Sussex County Council’s Mobile Library will be making its fortnightly visit to Catsfield and will be parked in the usual place outside the Village Hall on Wednesday19th November from 3.45pm – 4.45pm.
