Council tenants get rent reduction in Bognor Regis

Council house tenants around Bognor Regis have seen their rents reduced.

The average weekly rent increase has been cut from 5.8 per cent to 2.7 per cent after the government changed its formula for calculating the rise.

This means the new average rent being paid is 72.16 compared to 74.34. The lower figure took effect last month.

Arun District Council's actions in implementing the change were agreed by councillors last week.

Some of the costs involved in making the change so soon after the larger increase came into force in April will be met by the government, but the rest will have to come from Arun's housing budget.
