Curator hasworked amiracle onlatest exhibit

In my letter in January I gave news of one of our latest acquisitions to our local history museum '“ a model of the now demolished Riviera Lido Holiday Camp, formerly situated in Nyetimber.

As I said, this is a rather large item to find space for in our very small museum.

But as usual our curator, David, has come up trumps and devised a way to display the model without having to remove any other exhibits to make room for it.

Also new for this coming season is a display to mark the centenary of the founding of the Boy Scout movement.

We also had a surprise find. Last year when Field House (corner of Gloucester Road) was being demolished we were given the foundation stone, for which we found a spot in the corner of the museum.

This being a heavy item, once in place it was not moved.

However during the course of our reorganising the museum for this season's opening it was found to contain a bottle which turned out to be a time capsule containing a farthing and a 1907 newspaper.

I would like to thank the small band of volunteers who have been busy during the close-season cleaning, tidying and painting, with particular thanks to our curator who had done the majority of the work.

We are now looking forward to our grand opening on Saturday, March 31 at 1pm to coincide with the '˜Here comes Summer' event.
