Dramatic photo of protesters wins Rustington teen a national prize

PROTESTERS gathering outside Downing Street helped win a British Life Photography award for a Rustington snapper.

Luke Draw received the Young British Life Photographer award for a series of four images, including his photograph showing protesters urging the Prime Minister to back the ban on hunting with dogs.

The competition was inspired by an explosion of interest in photography and its power to illustrate life in Britain today.

Organisers said the technological revolution had given everyone ready access to cameras, enabling spontaneous capture of original and arresting images.

Luke is currently studying photography at The Angmering Sixth Form.

“All aspects of photography interest me and I am always trying out new techniques and ideas to further my potential,” he said.

“I live quite a balanced life and once I put the camera down, I have no desire to pick it up sometimes for several days.

“I see so many amazing things in the world and document it using photography. The art has taken me to Africa five times, including twice for the wildebeest migration in Kenya and numerous places across Europe.

“I am looking for a career in photojournalism, potentially specialising in conflict in the future.”

An exhibition of some of the best work runs at Mall Galleries, London, until Sunday.
