Eastbourne man found dead in McDonald’s toilets

A 39-year-old man from Eastbourne died in the toilets of McDonald’s last year.

Daniel Roberts was found dead in the Terminus Road branch of the fast food restaurant on January 4 2020, an inquest heard.

The inquest at Eastbourne Town Hall on Thursday (May 13), heard Mr Roberts, who was unemployed and lived in Bourne Street, had taken a cocktail of drugs and alcohol that day.

A report from Eastbourne Station Health Centre told the inquest Mr Roberts suffered with depression and anxiety.

The report also said he had a history of drug abuse and was in touch with the local substance abuse service Change Grow Live, formerly known as STAR.

On January 4 around 7.30pm police officers were called to the scene and paramedics confirmed Mr Roberts was dead, the inquest heard.

East Sussex coroner Alan Craze ruled Mr Roberts died from a dependence on drugs.
