A FEW hundred years ago ravens would have needed no introduction.

Currently still a rare bird across much of the country, many people's experience of the species will be those very big black birds that inhabit the Tower of London, or perhaps a distant view of a silhouette over a Welsh mountainside or coastal cliff.

THey are impressive, fascinating birds- extremely long-lived ( well over 20 years in captivity, pair for life, have an extraordinary aerial ability and a global range equalled by few other birds.
