Farm Diary by Gwyn Jones, December 22

Well thank you Tony Blair. Supporter of agriculture, in Europe and out of Europe! Having quite conveniently forgotten that we are in the middle of implementing a Common Agricultural Policy reform, the largest and most far-reaching agricultural reform, ever.

Our Tony makes sure that another one gets under way within two years. He seems determined to damage agriculture in this country, pretending to care for the environment, as he makes sure that more and more food is flown, trucked, and shipped in from other countries in the world. What about food miles Tony? What about local food? Regional food? British food? What about animal welfare, the countryside, the environment?

Gwyn Jones's Farm Diary appears every week in the West Sussex Gazette. To read the full version of this article, see December 22 issue.
