FEATHERS FLY AS SWANS 'WALK' TO STOP WATER WASTAGE

BRONZE swans '“ part of an eye-catching water feature in Horsham's Swan Walk since 1990 '“ have flown their nest, to the fury of shoppers and residents.

Following an environmental and safety review, the iconic sculpture by Lorne McKean was removed on Sunday evening following instructions by owners of Swan Walk. Representatives of asset managers Morley said the move would make the shopping centre more environmentally friendly and cut down water wastage.

But a campaign has been launched to reinstate the swans, which were a much-loved feature of the shopping centre. A Horsham District Council spokesperson said: "We are having urgent discussions with the owners of the centre to see if the swan sculpture can be reinstated."

Meanwhile the centre has launched discussions with local groups to help find the Lorne McKean piece a new home. Users of the centre have described the removal as 'political environmental correctness' gone mad.
