Fire breaks out at Eastbourne council building

A blaze has been extinguished at a council building in Eastbourne town centre, according to the fire service.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said at 9.12am on Tuesday, September 27, it was called to attend Eastbourne Borough Council buildings in Grove Road following reports of a blaze.

A spokesperson from the fire service explained that firefighters from both Eastbourne and Newhaven had attended the incident.

The spokesperson added: “Crews used CO2 to extinguish a small fire in a heating unit. Crews used thermal imaging cameras to ensure the fire was extinguished.”

The crews left the scene at 9.36am, according to the fire service.

A spokesperson from Eastbourne Borough Council said there was no damage as a result of the incident and that the heating unit has been removed.

Pictures on social media from a local resident had shown two fire engines with its lights on in Grove Road near to the junction with Ivy Terrace.

Residents are reminded to call 999 in an emergency.
