Firefighters continue to tackle floods in Chichester, Midhurst and Bognor Regis

Firefighters have been busy attending flooding incidents in Chichester, Midhurst and Bognor Regis.

At 4.38am today (Monday, June 11) flood water affected two houses at Hook Lane in Pagham. The gas and electrics were isolated by firefighters and advice was given. The flooding had also affected another house’s electrics at The Hollies, North Bersted, Bognor at 4.56am. The guttering was also cleared.

In Fishbourne at 5.10am firefighters were called to a house in Clay Lane, which had been severely affected by floodwater. The water was dispersed using buckets and the electrics were isolated.

At 6.18am West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were called again to Hook Lane in Pagham. Water had got under the floorboards of a house. The gas and electrics were isolated.

There was heavy flooding at Fishbourne Road East and Appledram Lane North in Chichester at 6.17am. Limited salvage was undertaken at six houses and water was channelled to a culvert.

Water had to be pumped by firefighters at a property at Bepton Road in Midhurst at 7.53am.

Firefighters had to work with builders to dig a 40 foot channel to divert water at a house in Middleton-on-Sea at 8.20am. The house at Sea Way had to be pumped out.

A house at Bosham Hoe, Bosham was surrounded by water at 8.35am. Firefighters had managed to reduce the water level. A house at Shore Road in Bosham was also flooded.

Flood water was pumped from a house in Fishbourne at Main Road at 8.35am. Water had to be pumped from another house at Felpham Road, Felpham, at 8.46am.

And in Church Lane, Birdham, flood water had got into a home and a salvage was undertaken by the fire service at 8.50am. Flood water had got into a property along the same road and an elderly homeowner had be evacuated to a nearby house.

Sandbags were requested to protect houses at Cot Lane in Chidham at 8.53am. Water was pumped from one house.

Firefighters are continuing to pump water from houses at Bell Lane in Birdham, after being called there for 9.06am.
