The former student of Bognor Regis Community College and Chichester College, is also well known locally for his charity work – such as being celebrity ambassador for St Wilfrid’s Hospice.

Danny, whose roles include playing Mark “Dodger” Savage on Channel 4’s Hollyoaks, was the seventh to be named and will join the likes of Louise Redknapp, Ed Balls and Will Young for the 2016 competition.

Speaking on his official profile for the show, he said: “I’ve always had the luxury of hiding behind characters when people see me.

“So going out there, on a dancefloor as myself in front of so many people really is terrifying!”

It also alludes to Danny’s dance experience, which saw him study at Chichester before ‘getting a scholarship to the Arts Education School – where his fellow alumni include Strictly’s very own Darcey Bussell’.

He’s no stranger to the stage either having starred in productions of Wicked and Les Miserables.

However having been in ‘soapland’ since 2011, it reveals Danny is a little apprehensive of getting back to his dancing shoes.

He said: “I wouldn’t know where to start. I don’t want to start learning the wrong things. I’m waiting for my partner to whip me in to shape!”

And with a Hollyoaks castmate, Ashley Taylor-Dawson, having made it to the quarter-finals a couple of years ago the pressure is on.
