Free events to celebrate International Women's Day

Talks, workshops and exhibitions will take place at the Brighton Dome and Museum on Saturday (March 3) to mark International Women's Day.

The venues have teamed up with Brighton Women’s Centre to put on the programme of free events from 10am to 5pm.

Highlights include Sing Your Heart Out with Aneesa Chaudhry at 10.30am in the Brighton Dome Concert Hall, where women are encouraged to sing, have fun and make new friends.

Also at the Dome is 'I'm Not Rain Man: Women and Autism', from 11.15am, which will challenge stereotypes of people with autism, and Sussex Police will reveal what it’s really like to be a woman on the beat, and how in Sussex, women have climbed to the very top of the force at 11.45am.

Photographer Fanny Beckman will be showcasing her photo series 'I Just Fell', highlighting domestic violence. She will be discussing issues around domestic violence and giving her views on combining political activism with art from midday at the Seminar Room in Brighton Museum.

Tour guide Louise Peskett will be holding 45-minute walking tours of the Royal Pavilion Estate to discover the important Women of Brighton’s history from 12pm.

Their Fight, Our Future is a pop up display of newly-created outfits at Brighton Museum, featuring important women in history, by students from Northbrook MET.

Codebar – a female run non-profit initiative collective from London – will be running a workshop on beginners coding from 3pm in the Brighton Museum Seminar Room.

The Guardian’s Sali Hughes discusses the impact of the changing beauty industry with three inspirational panellists in Empowerment or Oppression: What does the beauty industry do for women? in the Old Courtroom at 3.15pm.
