Fundraising sucess for Littlehampton and Arundel's RNLI

LITTLEHAMPTON'S RNLI raised almost £42,000 last financial year, and have started this one with a bang, with more than £4,000 already in the pot.

The captain of Gatton Manor Golf Club, Dorking, David Tackley-Goodman, made a trip to the town last week, to present a cheque for 3731. The money will be added to the 600 raised at an Easter Monday fayre, to put the fundraising branch on track to matching last year's figure.

Jan Pearce, honorary secretary of the Littlehampton and Arundel RNLI fundraising branch, said: "I would like to thank Mr Tackley-Goodman for choosing us as his charity of the year, during his year as captain.

"To go on saving lives at sea means training and equipping our volunteer crews. This costs money, and, as a charity, the RNLI relies on donations such as this to continue."

She added that in 2006, the RNLI rescued a total of 8,015 people, or 22 a day, from a total of 8,377 launches.

The golf club was presented with a certificate of thanks, and a plaque.
