GALLERY: Remembrance services in Littlehampton and East Preston

ATTENDANCES at both Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday events in the Gazette area were among the highest seen for many years.

The continuing heavy casualty toll in Afghanistan and the added poignancy of this year’s 11-11-11 date for Armistice Day appears to have swelled numbers.

Hundreds of people gathered round the war memorial at Littlehampton on Friday, November 11, for the two minutes’ silence, marked at the beginning and end by maroons fired from the beach.

The town’s MP Nick Gibb, mayor Alan Gammon and Arun District Council chairman Dennis Wilde were among the community leaders taking part in the commemoration, led by Fr Roger Caswell, team vicar of St Mary’s Church.

Pupils of River Beach Primary School, who have been studying the Second World War as a topic, were also among the large crowd.
