German mayor of Bognor's twin town dies

Members of Bognor Regis Twinning Association were saddened by the sudden death of one of their German associates. Dr Peter Willmann, the former mayor of Weil am Rhein, passed away on August 30. He was aged 69.

He was the mayor of the south west German town from 1984-2000 and was mainly instrumental in the twinning with Bognor in 1987.

But he was unable to join the guests from Weil who visited the town this summer when the 20 years of friendship were celebrated.

After his terms as mayor, Dr Willmann continued to take a keen interest in the twinning association and made several visits to Bognor over the years.

He lived a very active public life as a district councillor and was the president of a Foundation for Social Purposes.
