Grants for community groups

Wealden organisations will be getting a Â£150,000 boost over the coming year thanks to Wealden District Council's Community Grants scheme.

Among the 37 organisations to benefit are the Hailsham and District Gingerbread Group, Uckfield Regeneration Partnership, Crowborough For Young People, the Sussex Wildlife Trust and Heathfield & District Agricultural Show.

'We have received requests for nearly 500,000 of funding which gives some indication of important role voluntary organisations, sports clubs and partnerships play in Wealden,' said Councillor David Logan, Cabinet Member for Finance.

One Community Grant beneficiary is the Uckfield Skate Park project which is receiving 10,000. T

he Uckfield Regeneration Partnership applied for the grant, but spokesman Barry Knights praised the involvement of the prospective skate park users themselves.
