Gravestone testing resumes

A NEW round of memorial testing at Bexhill Cemetery has resulted in many more unstable stones being laid down.

Testing began last month and will continue through the autumn with more than 7000 stones to be examined, working to guidelines provided by the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management.

Headstones have been inspected within a two-year period but after this year testing will be carried out once every five years.

Many of those that failed the safety checks have been memorial crosses.
