‘Gutted’ as Horsham’s HMV store set to close

Signs went up in the windows of HMV, in West Street, last Thursday saying store closing!.

The company entered administration back in 2013 but the shop, along with many others, was saved.

In response to the latest announcement that the company may now be leaving the town many people got in touch with the County Times expressing their sadness about the loss of the store.

Alex Reid said: “I will greatly miss HMV. Where else can you buy anything re music in a shop in Horsham?

“Particularly sad for me, as I collect records and two months ago they just started to stock vinyl records again.”

Commenting on the County Times Facebook page Chris-Boys Chris said: “I thought HMV were on the up! I’m gutted, love the shop and helpful staff, feel sorry for them.”

Lisa Marie Bailey added: “Nooooooo I love Horsham HMV. Like to see what dvds I can get when its payday.”

The store is one of a number of retail casualties in Horsham over the past six months.

Last week the County Times announced Dreams bed superstore, in Foundry Lane, would be closing whilst the Cloth Store and the Merrythought restaurant also shut up shop earlier this year.

Geri Craddock said: “Love that shop for DVDs and CDs. Horsham and surrounding areas getting bigger but more and more shops closing, no more coffee shops please.”

Maureen Linda Magee agreed: “So sad, lots of shops closing.... Clothes shop, Country Casuals, HMV - what’s next?”

But the main concern raised by many was the question of what will replace the store with lots of people stating they did not want to see ‘any more more coffee shops’ in the area.

Others were hoping the company would relocate to another premises in the town.

Alison Heenan Mullins said: “Sad to hear, always go in here to get films and music. I will miss it and hope they at least get a smaller store, in Horsham.”

It is not yet known whether HMV are looking to relocate to another site in Horsham or what the future holds for staff at the shop.

The County Times this week made repeated approaches to HMV’s head office for comment about the store closure. No response had been received from the company by the time of publication.
