Help George find a new home in West Sussex

Two dogs destined for a lonely life in an animal rescue home now have a happy future in West Sussex thanks to actor James Bolam and his actress wife, Susan Jameson.

They were both filming a fresh series of New Tricks at Mayhew Animal Rescue Home and Humane Education Centre in Tranmer Gardens, Kensal Green, London when they were unable to resist bringing two of the inmates home with them.

And they want someone else in West Sussex to follow suit and give a kind, country home to an English pointer named George, who is still at the centre.

Explained Susan: "We have always had dogs. Our previous ones came from the Warnham Animal Rescue Centre, which has since closed down. One of our two dogs, Patch, died leaving us only with Bill, a bull terrier x collie. We had thought for some time that we ought to get another."

She was filming a scene at Mayhew involving a collie named Scruffy, with one of the inmates posing as Scruffy, when the film crew started to take wagers about when and how many dogs she would adopt.

Last week James and Susan brought home Scruffy, a 15-year-old endearing miniature Yorkshire terrier, and Sandy, a lovely dog which suffers from epilepsy.

They would have taken George home with them too, but with their daughter's dog staying for Christmas too, they will have four dogs and two cats to care for.

"George is a lovely dog. He is eight years old and his owners have been made homeless. He came to the home from Stoke Newington and he has little chance of anyone from London taking him on. He needs a good country home in somewhere like West Sussex," said James.

Anyone who would like to give a home to George, or any other animal there, should contact Lisa on 02089682348 or 02089690178.

"Our two new dogs are such a joy.Let's hope there will be a happy ending for George too," said Susan.
