High School principal gives glimpse of future

A GLIMPSE of the state-of-the-art new school now being designed was offered by Bexhill High School principal Mike Conn at Tuesday's awards night.

The De La Warr Pavilion was packed with parents and pupils for the event.

The principal said: "We are making considerable progress towards our new school.

"The conceptual drawings are now ready and more detailed ones will follow very shortly once the final stages of the curriculum plan are agreed.

"There will be many opportunities for the community to look at these plans and to make comments and suggestion before planning permission is sought. This is such an exciting project that will lead to the town having a state of the art educational facility that will be a pathfinder in the county and a place for the whole community to access high quality education.

"The greatest challenge will be to ensure we have a standard of education for the next 50 years and this will mean some considerable change to the methods of learning and teaching and to the way students spend their time in school.

"The team is dedicated to exploring every possibility and to being transformational in its decision making. I will be keeping you all informed of developments as they unfold. I am extremely excited by this opportunity and am very grateful to East Sussex County Council for placing this project in Bexhill."

Mr Conn's comments came in the course of an extensive review of what he described as a "remarkable" year for the High - See Friday's full Observer report.
