Horsham community stalwart’s longevity recognised

Arthur Carden, who lives in Horsham, was presented with awards on behalf of neighbourhood watch and Horsham police at a committee meeting on Monday February 16.

Andrew Moffat, chairman of Horsham District Neighbourhood Watch, said: “Arthur has been a pillar of support to NHW, helping to keep the district safe from crime.

“His mind is energetic and razor sharp and his attention to detail has been remarkable.

“Sometimes, I think even the police have been a little frightened of him!”

Mr Carden became a street coordinator in 2005 and has been the vice chairman of NHW since 2011.

At the meeting, he was presented with a certificate of long service to NHW by Sussex federation vice chairman Derek Pratt, signed by chairman John Wright.

He was then recognised with an award from Horsham police, presented by sergeant Rachel Mundy.

Sgt Mundy said: “Arthur has worked tirelessly over the years to support neighbourhood watch and his enthusiasm and attention to detail are second to none.

“Thank you very much Arthur for all that you have done for the Horsham district.”

Mr Carden will remain on the district committee. Southwater parish councillor Michael Neale has been elected as the new vice chairman.
