Hospice’s first Superhero Hike proves family affair

The 28 men and boys descended on Cathedral Green for a warm-up before heading off with their collection buckets.

This new event, which replaces Hike in Heels, proved a great family affair, with grandads, dads and sons taking part.

Three generations joined the walk from Team SBS. Grandad Nin Humphry, dressed as the Silver Surfer, was joined by son Nathan as Spiderman and grandson Austin as Iron Man. Also on their team was Gary Wood, dressed as Batman.

Events manager Julie Longman said: “We also had a street collection on the day and we are very pleased to have collected £788.70.

“Our huge thanks go to everyone involved in making the day such a success, our volunteers for helping the day run smoothly and everyone who stopped and made a donation.

“We hope people in the city enjoyed the spectacle, which is of course in aid of a very worthwhile cause and thank you to everyone who donated.

“The heroes have also been raising sponsorship, which will enable us to continue providing free of charge, specialist palliative and end of life care for our local community.”
