Kathy's all set for national TV stardom

A Nyetimber dancing queen was today (Thursday, April 30) wowing the nation with her footwork as her 100th birthday nears.

Kathy Roberts was appearing on ITV's This Morning just two days before she celebrates her century.

She was invited to become a daytime star on the show with Fern Britton and Phillip Schofield.

It will be the first time she and her two quick feet will have been featured on national TV.

"I'm very excited by it," she said.

Kathy has no intention of letting her 100th birthday get in the way of her devotion to ballroom, tango or cha cha dancing.

She explained: "I just can't stop myself. Dancing does me good.

"It keeps me fit and I weigh the same now '“ at under seven stone '“ as I did when I was a teenager."

Kathy, who has been dancing since she was 16, indulges her love of dance in two-hourly sessions at Pagham Village Hall and North Mundham Village Hall and most weeks at Aldingbourne Community Sports Centre.

Her dancing partner of the past two years, David Larkins, 85, of Redwood Place, Aldwick, said: "We get on very well as a partnership but Kathy beats me as a dancer easily. She is gradually wearing me out!"

She will be celebrating her birthday with a meal with her family of two surviving children, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

"I've had my tough times," she said, "but you get over them. You can't keep living in the past."
