Lights mooted for 'black' stretch of Bognor promenade

A bid to light a stretch of promenade for the first time is being made by Bognor Regis town councillors.

They are seeking to have street lights installed along the seafront in front of Butlins.

The stretch, of about a kilometre from Gloucester Road to the beach huts in Felpham, is pitch black at night.

Help in paying for what would be a costly scheme is being sought from Butlins, the county council and Felpham Parish Council.

Cllr Ken Scutt welcomed the idea. "It would be very good if this could go through," he said at the December meeting of the town council.

"If a cycleway is set up from Felpham to Gloucester Road, it will be much safer if they have lighting along there."
