Lions Club present cheque to MS charity

MANY charities are feeling the pinch of the recession, falling drastically low on funds, and up until recently, the Hastings and Rother Multiple Sclerosis Society were no exception. However, thanks to the Bexhill Lions Club they now have a cheque for £500 to boost their account.

Bexhill Lion President Avril Earnshaw said as soon as they heard of the plight of the MS charity, and that it was down to its last few months of available funds, thanks to the generosity of local residents, the Lions were only too pleased to dig into their charity account to help out.

Avril said: "This is exactly the sort of thing the Bexhill on Sea Lions Club likes to do. We raise our money through the generosity of the residents of Bexhill and this is the perfect opportunity to help those less fortunate in our community."

On receiving the cheque from Avril, MS Society Chairman, Margaret Howie, said the money will help support many people who suffer from MS and raise awareness of the disease.

Margaret said: "Multiple Sclerosis attacks the central nervous system and is the most common cause of severe disability in young adults. Most sufferers can live full active lives through changing lifestyles, medication and therapies.

"The aim of the Society is to raise awareness of MS and provide support for all those affected by MS by providing and ear to listen, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, yoga, and most importantly, a point of contact to help answer the many questions.

"These are just few of the services we provide for out three hundred members, their families and cares. This 500 will help to allow us to continue to provide this much needed support."
