Little Common children in Sleepover world record bid

CHILDREN from Little Common School Playcare Settings will be taking part in an attempt to smash a Guinness World Record on Saturday, June 14.

The 120-strong group will be hosting a local sleepover that evening. It will be in support of the national Giant Sleepover.

The Little Common event will be one of more than 1,5000 charity sleepovers taking place simultaneously across the country.

The money will go to the Save The Children's Emergency Fund (CEF).

Save The Children aims to start responding the moment an emergency strikes. But often it had to wait to raise money with a disaster appeal or through government support.

As a result, Save The Children has set up a fund for its emergency work. This enables the charity to swing into action quickly while waiting for urgently-needed additional funding to be collected.

The Giant Sleepover aims to break the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous sleepover.

This was set by the 2007 sleepover event when more than 33,000 participants took part, from the Delhi in India to the Falkland Islands.

It made the event bigger even than that year's London Marathon.

To help beat the world record, participants must sleep (or at least have the lights out) for five hours or more.

Over 50,000 children aged between five and 16 are expected to take part in this year's event.

Locally, the children from Little Common School Playcare Settings have already got plenty of excitement planned for the evening, including fun-packed games and entertainment.

Manager Bess Day and her experienced Playcare team said: "It's going to be a great fun event which also means that the children can raise money for Save The Children, a very worthwhile cause.

"We are delighted to be involved."

It is not too late for other groups to take part in the 2008 Giant Sleepover. To register online go to www.giantsleepover.com or call 0870 240 1640.
