Littlehampton harbour featured on television show

LITTLEHAMPTON’S maritime charms were on display to a national television audience.

The port is the latest destination in a 20-part ITV 1 series, The Hungry Sailors, charting the culinary adventures of father and son team Dick and James Strawbridge on their voyage along the south coast.

In episode 14 which was shown on Thursday (February 2), they moor up at Littlehampton, where they visit a Victorian walled garden to find herbs, compete to make the best salad, and try to catch trout.

They also test out their bushcraft skills to light a fire, before cooking a pork dinner on board their boat, the pilot cutter Amelie Rose.

The series highlights local food producers along the route, who supply the ingredients for Dick and James to cook together for their crew. It also provides the perfect opportunity for ex-MasterChef winner Dick and his son to indulge their two passions – sailing and great food.

Littlehampton is given its own episode in the 20-part series, which follows the Amelie Rose as Dick and James sail from Fowey in Cornwall, right along the south coast and ending their journey at the mouth of the river Thames.

Littlehampton’s deputy harbourmaster Lee Harrison took this photograph of the Amelie Rose as she left Littlehampton to continue her voyage eastwards, and the image is being used by Littlehampton Harbour Board for its 2012 tide tables booklet.
