Littlehampton Rotary Club raises funds for air ambulance

AFTER the talking, it was time for action by members of the Littlehampton Rotary Club.

A few weeks after Dr Magnus Nelson visited the club to give a talk about the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance, the club responded with a visit to the service’s base at Dunsfold, Surrey.

Four Rotarians went to the Dunsfold Aerodrome to meet the crew and the administrative team for the air ambulance, and to present a cheque for £1,000.

They were also pleased to meet Dr Nelson, the resident doctor for the service, who is on secondment from the Royal Sussex County Hospital, where he is consultant in A & E.

On his visit to the club in October he told Rotarians that the air ambulance service was used 40 per cent of the time for road accidents, 20 per cent for home medical emergencies and 40 per cent for golfers, walkers and horse riders injured in inaccessible areas.

The service was vital, he said, in ensuring medical treatment was received in the “golden hour” during which recovery prospects were greatly enhanced.
