More drugs checks agreed for Bognor holiday resort

The additional searches will form part of a review of the site’s anti-drugs policy. This was among the measures agreed at a meeting between senior managers at the holiday company and the police.

Other steps which Butlin’s will implement include a closer scrutiny of block bookings and an increase in safety personnel at key times.

Improved training of bar staff and a review of its CCTV cameras will also take place.

The meeting was called after 12 arrests at the holiday park after a fight at an adult weekend to promote the ‘Swinging 60s’. Six Butlin’s staff were taken to hospital.

Chief Inspector Jane Derrick, the top officer at Bognor Regis police station, said: “We want to reassure the local community and the public that we are taking the incident seriously and are working closely with Butlin’s to address the issues.”

Jeremy Pardey, Butlin’s resort director, said: “We are satisfied with the outcome of this meeting to discuss what was an isolated incident.

“It was a constructive meeting and we are happy to continue our close working relationship with Sussex Police.”

The 12 arrested on suspicion of GBH and violent disorder – most from Gravesend – in the early hours of November 5 are on bail.
